FYI: The forums are currently down and we're not sure why. I'm guessing it has something to do with the storm damage the data center took last week. We hope it'll be back up soon. Till then, we ask for your patience.

happy easter to you to0 alla, btw your new Turn A looks very good, can you teach me how you made it (the diorama/base)?
robofreak
03/23 17:32
I'm going to be honest on this one. You still lack an eye for color. Your Turn A just does'nt seem right with all the silver highlights. You wanted to make a phantom, but you ended up with something else. Read what I put in Turn A's comment area to understand. You're going to need to learn more about color theory in order to understand what colors work well with each other and if you want I can show you a book that's worth buying on the subject. Besides color theory, we need to get you to have a better understanding of what scale is and how sizes change from real life to becoming a model. Once you get the concepts of color theory and scale down, I think you'll then be ready to change your class.

03/23 17:16
I'ts good to see that you're getting better at building. Now we have to get you comfortable with spray cans and then we'll be really rolling!

The problem with Wing Zero Ka. is that it looks a milion times better up close than it does in the picture. It's one of my personal favorites and the only way you'll understand what I mean is if you get one for yourself and build it. I tried watching one of the Turn A movies last night and I just could'nt get into it. It might have been because of the bad subtitles, but the story seemed really choppy.
robofreak
03/17 22:35

dhanis150691
02/22 04:53
Yes, You have an increase level in modelling now !... btw, dude you have to try some Outbound Activities ! I just came from Outbound Activities Place & trust me dude, Outbound Activities Rocks !
smeagolthevile
02/22 04:21
Wait, what now? Your buying kits for other people? If these people already know how to build like were teaching you they should have their own, and if not... well, 100$ is a lot of money, you should have gotten them some HGUCs or future grades and toldem they were expensive
smeagolthevile
02/21 18:53
they were sold out before. also, dont think bad about having seams its impossible to fill a seam line on a clear part
deathworld_dragon
02/21 06:15
You do get a lot of rare stuff man (I don't know were you get it or how you can afford it. Maybe model prices here are different to you guys). You still need to learn and finish the Freedom befor you get into your other kits. We do not want another kit destroyed, do we...
dhanis150691
02/21 01:39
Damn ! those stuff is sure rare dude ! what scale is it? 1 bet it's 1:144

The Talgeese three is a nice design, I am trying to find myself a 1/100 scale of it. I have the 1/144 but its OLD and before I knew how to do anything besides snap, basicly, when I knew less then you.

Thanks, I know all about that website, I'm eyeing the Rahxephon Kit on that site since HLJ has already stopped selling it.
deathworld_dragon
02/18 05:49
Looks like a nice project but you shouldn't buy it because of its size its because you want to. Plus I've been on that site befor im tossing up to by decals between them and HLJ. This si where I by my kit and teach modeling (in person not on the site). http://www.ozanimart.com.au/ check it out its awsome plus you might get a good price...

02/17 05:40
Not bad! But we are artisan's (one who re-creates a or improves others work). Unless it is a full scratch build we can't even call our self’s artist's (but their are far more skilled artisan's than some artists). Interesting isn't it...

your picture?
deathworld_dragon
02/12 06:31
Ah! good work mate im really happy. Your profile is more like a modelers profile. What happened to the ginn as your first gundam displayed I knid of like it. Any way keep it up with the freedom and fix that Zaku. Im back to that bootleg Blitz gundam and its a pain in the arse (gaps half a mill large ever were, holes, missing parts flashes 1.5cm long, parts not fitting and ABS that is not ABS), lol. keep it up and happy modeling...

deathworld_dragon
02/10 20:42
please ask Robofreak that (you should be doing spray cans so you do not need to know yet)...
robofreak
02/10 17:29
You can start, but I would like it if you give me progress shots every couple of days on the Strike Freedom gallery. You don't actually have to work up to 1000 grit. If you use the car primer I told you to get, it will fill in all the imperfections. So just worry about flash and sprue nubs.
robofreak
02/08 14:42
Testor's products suck! Heres what were going to use as a seam filler for now. it's easy to make and sands nicely. Get some Future Floor Acrylic and some talcum powder and mix the two into a consistency that you find workable. It's a little gritty, but should be ideal after it's sanded and primed. Throw out or sell or of your testors stuff. The only stuff worth using comes from Tamiya, Gamesworkshop, and Model Master. I'm also waiting for you to clean out your galleries, can we try to get that done today?
robofreak
02/08 14:36
I never did ask you what you were using as a seam filler. What is it that you are using?

02/08 06:10
Sorry man! Im going to have to pull the putty info until a latter date. Sort of done the wrong thing there...
robofreak
02/07 16:30
I don't want you doing anything with putty until the base and the Strike Freedom are done. I don't care if you are a sculptor, I need to know that you can at least build something with instructions before you go off modifying something with putties. Got it?
smeagolthevile
02/07 04:40
Zach, I have been unable to follow your progress, how goes your work with the strike freedom Robo is helping you with, I would like to see work in progress (WIP) shots of it in your gallery

deathworld_dragon
02/04 21:08
Reguarding the Zeta again about 10% of this whole kit is made buy Zoids parts. I have a few Zoids for parts but I don't know what they are...
deathworld_dragon
02/03 23:46
Ah! good work mate, I see you are following us. I also agree on cleaning out all of your doubles and unfinished work in your galleries. Lucky for you I ave a saying about models "Any damage on a kit can be fixed unless killed by solvents, fire, filed or sand blasted and smashed" Remeber my Zeta was smashed when I was hit by a car at a hobby expo (the fact of the zeta being in 20 pieces hurt more then going over the bonit). Rub a little metho on your marker work and gold paint, fill that gap and start again. Sorry if I was a little harsh but now im happy we are on the right track. Happy modeling...
robofreak
02/03 18:04
Well, progress with you is moving at a mind numbingly slow pace, but you are improving. I need you to clear out all of your galleries that are of unfinished pieces. Clear out the following: The SD's that you first posted, all of the Ginn galeries, and the mud diorama. Once you've done that you can go ahead and make a new entry for the Ginn with it and the mud diorama. Doing this will make your page a little more manageable and help to not choke the galleries with excessive pictures of unfinished models. Got it?
robofreak
02/03 17:38
It really depends. Car paints have enough strength to actually melt your kits without the proper precautions. The only Gundam kit that I know of that can withstand the fumes is the outer armour of an MG Sazabi. Mine has car paint on it that I used when I had first started and looking back I realize that that was almost a very stupid thing to do because of it's solvent strength.
robofreak
02/03 17:00
Anything that involves sand or rocks and required thousands of years of volcanic activity to create needs to stay on the base for paint. So yes the sand stays along with whatever rocks you applied. Anything that is not related to the rock family must go away from the base before painting.
robofreak
02/03 12:13
Take the gress off now! We need to paint the groundwork first. You need to remove the oil thing and the sprues along with whatever grass you applied. You can't add anything to it until we have it painted. When you have only ground and rocks on the base, I'll tell you what to do next. Got it?
deathworld_dragon
02/02 00:23
I will be saying your not getting better, what happend to the Strike Freedom it was going well. That action has hurt Robofreak and smeagolthevile after all we done for you. And you have also made your self a target. Please give this hobby more credit and respect (their is a reason why not everybody does models). And clear out the junk out of your gallery. You will not be needing it if you plan on becomming a modeler...
smeagolthevile
02/01 09:41
Ok, more about your Zaku, when you look at the eye in the pics, it looks like you drew a pupil in the eye, not a swirl, because of the thick line, and the shadow from the head, if your going for that effect, use a thinner marker. Also, prime your kits, make the whole thing white before painting. Your pants are to muddled on that zaku, like the gold. Do multiple coats of very thinned paint so the color shines and is lusterous and the color it should be. I know you can do this, ignore everyone, well, not me, and listen to robo.
smeagolthevile
02/01 09:39
Sigh. Zach. Im not saying that your not getting better, you are, but your progressing VERY slowly. That also isnt a bad thing, you just need to wait. Look, you said it took two weeks. Let me put that in perspective for you. I am working on a set of Airfix 1/32nd British 8th army. I have been working on them for atleast two months. Out of the set of five figures I have only finished 2 of them. When you work, spend a week prepping the kit, sanding smoothing and filling the seams, make sure it is ABSOLUTLEY PERFECT. After that spend a week deciding on your paint job, mixing your pants, thinning them, which is very important. Make sure you know what your going to do. Then spend another week painting the kit. Make sure the paint is smooth and even, no brushmarks, that kind of thing. Then spend another week, not with a sharpee or marker, but something like a micron marker, or a fine gray gundam marker pannel line marker. make sure your pannel lines are on the VERY edges of the indentations, inside the seam that forms the angle of the pannel. When you paint, use masking tape, it is very effective on making smooth lines and such.

02/01 06:32
Okay I'll try it this saturday. Okay now i'll give you my receipe, mine is still amateur ,but try it if you have a little time. I called it "Ludov's Krabby Patty" What you need is an Australian Beef (Special for Burgers, & it Shaped like Circle, Burger Buns, Mozarella Cheese, Onion ,Butter, Tomato Sauce & Mayonaise. First you have to Grill the Beef until the color of the beef is brown-ish. And then fill the burger buns with butter and put the mozarella cheese after that & then grill it after the beef is Grilled. Fry the Onion, after you grill the buns, make sure that the buns have a melted cheese. and then you put the beef in the bun & give some tomato sauce & mayonaise... Well that's it, you made it (& sorry for my bad english =D)
robofreak
01/31 18:33
I'll be honest, the Zaku is better than most of the other projects yet it still lacks in the paint department. You have brush strokes, but the thing is is that I know you can do a lot better. You're just impatient and that is not good in this hobby. Seams are one thing, but painting is an entirely different art that must be developed with the utmost care. Tell you what, Let's put Freedom on hold and make your riciculously large base look better. What do you think?

Great! Give me a couple of weeks as I still have to order the kit and make all the neccesary preparations. Oh and make sure you remember to tell me about this whole no knives thing with the law when the time is more appropriate. I've got to hear more about this. I don't know how serious it is, but it does seem a little silly that they won't let you use an exacto knife. I hope it's not permanent.
robofreak
01/26 17:54
Well do me a favor and don't do anything to your kits until you have the proper work space. You will also need some serious ventilation in the basement so you don't choke and die from the fumes. I'm thinking about doing a youtube video with a God Gundam step by step. More on it later, but I think it would be better for you if you saw how I do my kits so that way you'll be on the same page as me while we work on your Strike Freedom. It'll also help show how important Krylon is for the internals. I'll go over basic weathering and primer. What do you think?

oh really? that's a kiddy stuff? so what about people obsessed more about in your country? In my country like i said to chaoszero ,kids and even teenagers in Indonesia obsessed in online gaming such as ragnarok and warcraft, and some of them addicted to NAruto, a lot ! because NAruto in my country is really "booming". And the other is obsessed with anime & japanese superhero, just for information, they even made their favourite character's costume (cosplay stuff) i heard that they almost spent around 400-500 dollars for their own costume ! geez... So what about your country? what are they obsessed with?

hi, i like your gundam draws.. you realy can drawing.. i want to show you, my gundam draw.. please comment
robofreak
01/24 17:48
I gotcha. I was thinking you did'nt know gundarium alloy was actually a super composite ceramic material instead of a metal. You'll need the Krylon for purposes of the frame and wing areas. We need the Krylon on the frame as it will bond to the plastic and won't have to worry about the paint getting messed up after it's cured. Were going to be using a combination of black and different greys as the main colors while the frame will be metalized using the Krylon and boltgun. More on that later for now just get everything sanded and I'll tell you what to do with all those materials I had you buy.
robofreak
01/24 17:30
I don't typically use putty. My seams are done using a super strength plastic model super glue. I usually just run a little glue down one side of a piece and then put the two pieces together. After it dry I'm able to sand it down and have no seam! I will be ordering some Ave apoxie sculpt soon. It's an epoxy clay compound that dries harder than plastic and does'nt break easily. It's great as a putty and can be used to add lots of details, but I do not want you getting this stuff yet. It's messy I need to know that you can at least build and paint a decent kit without modifications. I don't understand what you mean by un-piloted. Any kit can look like it not piloted if you stick it in a hangar diorama. Trust me when I say this, you don not want to paint the outer armour boltgun metal. With the scheme were doing we need the frame to be metalized in a specific way so as to add little details. Making Boltgun the main color will suck all the realism out of it.
robofreak
01/24 12:11
Okay, you need to not go ahead of yourself and start doing modifications. I dont want you doing anything with paint until I see images of the nip marks being sanded and parts getting ready for primer. I need you to get the stuff from the list I gave you and you need to clear out your image gallery of the Strike Freedom and only leave images of your current progress. I tell you which pieces to prime and which ones to use Krylon fusion on later, but for right now you need to do all the prep work. Understood?
smeagolthevile
01/24 07:50
granted, if you think its money well spent, thats your perogative but I just think you can do better. instead of building NEW kits, rip appart yourold ones and re-do them. Look at my guntank at my GM cannon, they were redone so many times

01/23 17:00
Im sorry man! what you just pulled on that new project will probly piss off robofreak. Second that new base is no were near finished. And last are you happy you have over 17 models in your gallery? Some of them are of the same model or not finished. If I was you I would look into deleting most of them....

01/22 16:32
Hi man! Wow snow I have never seen snow befor sounds cool. Second thanks for my comment on my Zeta SD gundam, SD gundams can be weathered too. It has a lot of mistakes so I don't want you copying it OK! Just follow robofreak. Next im happy my air brush is fixed too I hope I creat awsome work like the other pros here (you should pay close attention to them too!). Again as a beginner in trouble follow robofreak on his plan on your fredom, don't run off on other pieces with out him knowing first. He has spent a lot of time on you and not his models, take care of him. Your custom sword is not quite a kendo sword yet(http://img41.photobucket.com/albums/v126/camaptrang/kendo/kendo05.jpg) This is what you probly want to make, buy some putty after the freedom and make your self a kendo boken. Your terrain is not up to scrach and still is a mud pile, when you finish your freedom you might likt to build it up like I explained and mount your freedom onto it. It is no were near finish. And yes the the paper-clip/needle technique is great but please do not touch any other model untill robofreak is finished. I don't even care if it is snowing FINISH IT! Plus please don't leave 100 short messages in peoples profiles. Tri every few day leave all the information you have to give to some one is a large message like this one. Spaming is not cool (robofreaks teachings is different if you need advice or leaving progress reports). You get back to it buddy and happy modeling...

01/22 14:13
The neon green won't work on the panels unless they're dark grey. The frame will get the metalizing treatment and the armor will have to be painted. It will look like no one is piloting, but you need to take into consideration that sometimes a lot of silver is too much silver. Understand?
robofreak
01/22 12:59
I got a cool idea. What do you think about using Dark greys and black as the main colors for the Strike Freedom? Also silver instead of gold weathering in the frame. And on top of that, use a neon green wash in all the panels. It'll give it the effect of being corrupted by an alien species or like it is fighting inside a computer as data. What do you think? I'm just throwing out ideas and I'm trying to teach you a little more about color theory as we go further into this project.
robofreak
01/22 12:34
Bad weather is not going to be holding the Strike Freedom back. Use this time to do all the neccessary prep work. We've got nubs to file, parts to sort, a color scheme to make, and seams. Let's get the prep work done so that the painting will go faster. For right now, I want you to put "ruffian" on hold and start geting the nip marks and flash taken care of. Not having files is okay. Cut 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper into strips as wide as a popsicle. Glue the strips onto both sides of the popsicle sticks using super glue. Once dry you will have instant files! Now get cracking!
deathworld_dragon
01/22 04:36

My Strike Freedom consisted of the following: italian red, brilliant blue, camel yelloy, german grey, light grey, white, black, brazen brass, shining gold, and boltgun metal.
robofreak
01/20 20:09
The wing tips that are already blue can receive a different color if you wish. The wings are too hard to take apart, so we'll be painting everything on the wings all at once except for the red, blue, and grey that's on the backpack. You will need to find Citadels Brazen Brass and Shining Gold paints. They are going to help us get the metal look that you saw on mine. Unless you want a different type of metal.
robofreak
01/20 20:05
I use camel yellow for pretty much all the yellow you see on my kits. I recommend against using yellow for anything but the inner part of the crown. I'm saying, only use yellow on the parts that are yellow now. Yellow is not a color that should be used main color.

I’m ok but some facts are wrong and it wasn't a riot as such (I can't believe it made international new). it was a party in the eastern suburbs 30mins away from the city (I live in the west part). This wanker of a kit calls a party then several hundreds kids stoned and pissed turned up. All they did was break fences, letter boxes and threw rocks at police cars. I knew some people who attended. That’s the real story but thanks for looking out for my well being...

Hey man I got to thank you. That heating up a paper clip and pocking holes then adding plastic cement is a great idea. A few of my mates in Australia wants to tri that as soon as they can. Go to Walmart and get the following: bamboo skewers, a large block of craft foam, several pack of office sticky tack, 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper, and Krylon Fusion Satin black paint. Also if Walmart does'nt stock the Automotive primer then you'll need to get it at Checker or Autozone. I listed the primers you'll need in an earlier post. Go to Home Depot and get yourself some jewelers files. This should cost you about $40. I know it's a little steep, but everything on this list can be reused for future projects. Don't worry about paints for now as we have to get everything prepped and you have to give me an idea on the colors your thinking about using. Since were going to be doing a special metalizing technique on the internals and internal sections on the wings, I advise you to stay away from using more metalics. You'll also want to go to a craft store and pick up a set of brushes. You want brushes ranging from really small to about an 1/2 inch wide. You can typically buy a pack of brushes with most of the sizes you'll need. The finer brushes will most likely have to be bought separately. Also, get yourself an exacto knife.
robofreak
01/17 16:56
Don't worry about any other dioramas yet. Baby steps. We gotta get you crawling before you can walk.
robofreak
01/17 16:55
I think the gold tips in the wings you want will be a little too strong given it color palette. For the black parts and internals of this model, we will be using the Krylon technique. Your basically coating all of the internals and black armour with Krylon fusion satin black. Don't use primer. Krylon is formulated to bond to plastic on the molecular level. Once you wash all the parts and let them dry, go pick up a can of Krylon black paint at walmart. You will need to let this paint dry for a couple of days. Don't worry about the colors you want right now. Pearl is too expensive and we need to focus on your first weathering lesson. When you read this message, start a shopping list. We've got some stuff you need to buy. I'll give you the list once your ready to start.
chaoszero
01/17 08:33
You are lucky you have people like them to help you when you started, All I got was Cut sand and paint. Take thier advice.
robofreak
01/16 15:42
You'll need to carefully pry the remaining armour off of the figure. The only parts that we want are the gold pieces. Were going to paint the frame all at once in order to save time. For the wings, you'll want to remove the red, blue, and grey pieces. Trust me on this and be careful with removing the last of its armour.
robofreak
01/16 15:38
Your'e going to be posting a lot of pictures so I reccommend that you remove all the old pics except for the ones of the frames. That's just so we can keep the page manageable and let me be able to keep better track of all your progress.
robofreak
01/16 14:48
Now you're going to need to post pics of it and mark it as an in progress. I need to see what you've done to it in order for me to help you figure out what to do next.

"If I hear one more "I can't" from you I'm going to hurt you" Dito! You have had three crash course from Robofreak, smeagolthevile and my self. I left you a great idea to turn your mud pile into an ace modeling base and we dished out an arse kicking. Yes You are on a site that contains some of the BEST modelers that america, and other nations have to offer. Yes you are a beginner but your work has not shown me you are even a modeler. And you are saying with all of our help you can't! Take a look around your probly have the best start out a modeler can ask for (75% of what I know I learned by my self). A lot of us here has taken a lot of time to help you out and if you keep on going on the road you are on now you will hurt some of us. THIS IS WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO: Open word and copy past all the advice you have gotten though your BAKUC profile and model comments (filter everything else). Put all the advice in order and print it out. Now in another document list all your made models you want to fix in order and arother list of new projects and what you want to do. Print it out and write waht you can do to fix those models with our advice befor making your new ones. Then show us your work for comments. Please do so and Happy Modeling...

Once you get your Strike Freedom's armour off, I'll give you a guide on making the internals look really good without much effort. If you want, I'll help you make a custom color scheme too. Just remember to take your kits one step at a time. It took me three weeks to get my Freedom done.
smeagolthevile
01/15 18:58
Last thing, its quite obvious you have people here who want you to do good? so dont give up, even if you posting like 8 or 9 single line comments instead of a big one (hit hit)
smeagolthevile
01/15 18:57
One last thing my friend. You are on a site that contains some of the BEST modelers that america, and other nations have to offer in the world of Gun-pla. Dont get discouraged, it can be hard for all of us. Imagine doing what some do, putting out money for one or two PERFECT GRADE kits, to hack them together for a special build, and end up with it ruined. hell I had to scrap a prohject because I made a few mistakes with my damn rattle cans (spray paint) and just ruined it
smeagolthevile
01/15 18:52
And if you want to see bad, do a quick google search for my first kit, it was a GM sniper. Just do a quick look for it. We all start from somewhere
smeagolthevile
01/15 18:50
Ok buddy. Its time for a crash course. Ill tell you what you need to do this Right. First, lets start simple, a GM. You need the kit obviously. Get the paint for it, which ever colors you wish honestly. First you build the kit. You open the holes for the pegs a bit with an exacto blade so you can slip it back appart. Once you fit everything together you take it apart. You sand down the kit, use a medium to high grit. It will scratch the kit. From there you use a higher grit, and a higher grit, then a higher grit again. the highest I use is about... 6500 grit sanding pads. it leaves the kit nice and smooth. make sure NOT to sand away details. After you sand the kit down you want to put together all the pieces that are not dependant on other parts (such as elbow joints and such, they are dependant) do things like the head, torso, chest, all of those. You glue the pieces together once you have it all set up and ready, let the glue squish out of the seam. LET IT DRY! after it dries sand/slice the excess glue off of the seams. from there you get a putty. I use Squadron Green Putty. You put it over the seam, let it dry, then sand that down, and then smooth with a sanding pad. This will, if done right, fill the seam. Do it for EVERY seam. After you do a part this way, hit it with a coat of primer, f you did it right the seams wont appear, if they do appear, repeat the putty step. After you have the whole kit build and primed like this paint it, one piece at a time, after you paint and finish use a High Gloss top coat. after that you apply your water slide decals, dont apply them over dull coats/flat coats, you need a smooth surface, and flat is not smooth. after the decals are on and dried, you apply a dull coat over it (if you want it dulled) then your finished. Now this is just a basic, cursory overview, there is ALOT more to it. I will give you some links. Www.hobbyfanatics.com (more advanced here) http://codyscoop.com/ht-building.html http://www.starshipmodeler.com/ Also look at people's sites from this site, like http://www.fichtenfoo.com/ NOW some more tricks and tips. When your painting areas that are multiple colors, inorder to get a smooth and solid and not sloppy line, invest in some masking tape by 3M. Here are some good sites for tools and supplies http://www.hobbylinc.com/ http://gundamstoreandmore.com/ http://www.micromark.com/
robofreak
01/15 18:26
Now that we have your confidence back, show me what you've done so far. I tell you exactly how you'll need to go about each step. Once you've got your first kit done, you'll be able to use what I've taught you to do the rest of your kits. Let's start with your Strike Freedom. I want you to take all of his armor off. Post pics once you're done with that and I'll tell you what you should do next.

01/15 17:15

01/15 14:52
If I hear one more "I can't" from you I'm going to hurt you. You need to stop saying you can't and be patient. Nip marks and Seams are not easy to do. It takes time to develop your modeling skills and eventually it will become second nature. I ruined 6 Gundam kits before I got good and yeah I was frustrated, but I learned that patience is the key. All of my technipues that I use were difficult at first and they're only now starting to become second nature. I've only really been doing seam lines recently and I ended up having to sculpt some new areas onto some kits due to being a little over zealous with the sandpaper. Post your progress and let me see what your at. I'm trying to help you along with everyone else that has seen your latest works. We want you to be proud of your work and you must realize that you don't suck. You just need more experience.
robofreak
01/15 14:38
I sucked at modeling when I started too. Don't expect to be great at building by just opening a box and looking at some sprues. I've ruined my share of Gundams and I'm trying to help you and other beginner modelers and to try and show you how to make your first kits look good. What you need is patience. The average SD is going to take a week to do properly. If you are willing to let me help you then take a couple of good pictures of what you have done so far and I'll help you fix it. Go take a walk and calm down, after that, post what progress you've made on the kit so that I can see what you did. As I give you advice on it I want you to continue to post your progress as I help you through it. Post all of your in-progs in the same gallery. That way, we can keep this site from being flooded with pics of a unfinished model.

do NOT custom paint a char, it will make you paint THREE TIMES slower. I would probably kill you if you customed a char
robofreak
01/15 12:37
I'm going to strongly reccommend that you stay away from custom color schemes for now. The Char set is not an easy kit to get and most of the modelers I know would probably slap you to death if you did a custom scheme to them. What did you use for seam filler? I need to know, before I can reccommend a paint. I'm telling you this because it takes quite a bit of experience before anyone is able to actually do a custom scheme and make it look good.
robofreak
01/15 12:32
I going to reccomend that you don't do gloss on an SD. The only sheen I would give it would be a flat one. If you want a little shine, then do a satin. Trust me, gloss is not a Gundams friend.

In reguard to what Robofreak and the others are saying your models are as good as your tools and weakest ability. Modeling is not as easy to come by in Australia as the US but I still equipted my friend every thing he needed to model my own work for $20au. That is the price of one of those SD gundams you have. You do have a lot of big ideas and promote your stuff across BAKUC but you need the models to follow that up. Please spend more time with your models befor spending it here unless you are after help. We all want to see you at your best. Tri harder and happy modeling...

Go to Home Depot and buy some jewelers file. They'll help you take care of the seams and nip marks. Using the file in conjunction with 400 grit sandpaper will help you out when you take care of those seams. Also, go to a Autozone or Checker and pick up a can of the Dupli Color primers. One can of white primer, one can of grey primer, and a can of dark grey primer. Let me walk you through this kit so you can get an idea of how to do the others. Start by taking it apart. Tell me when you get that far. After it's apart, I'll give you the next step.

01/14 15:38
What do you mean "stuff". You're not going to do what you did to your ginn to it right? SD's don't take battle damage well at all. If you want I can walk you through a tutorial on how to make a gundam look good with only sandpaper and a couple of washes. This method works well on SD's

robofreak
01/13 20:48
Believe it or not, but craft stores like Micheals and Hobby Lobby are great sources for materials that are cheap. My bases can attest to that. My humiliated son of god's base cost me under 6 dollars to make. Most people think I spent 30 to do it.
robofreak
01/13 20:44
Hey man, what you wrote was perfectly fine. Everyone of us starts off in a financial mess when our y chromosone tells us to build stuff. I'm in the process of trying to get out of the "dive" I needed to take in order to acquire my supplies. Believe it or not I don't use any of the fancy putties or airbrush techniques. I use Dupli color as a cheap, but strong primer along with Krylon black for internals. Everything else is a combination of handpainting and Tamiya spray cans. I also use super glue for seam lines. I've also had to learn how to make my own terrain supplies. Just ask me when you need something because I can usually figure out how to make an equivalent for less money. There are also some great websites that show how to make your own terrain supplies for free.
smeagolthevile
01/13 18:49
Hey. Im going to be honest with you right now, im not trying to be mean. I read what you said about the medical bills and you spending your Christmas money on your gundam kits and such. Well, if your using your Christmas money you should wait on building them save some money here and there and buy what you need. When I started I didnt have any of the right supplies, I tried anyhow, and it ended up looking absolutely horrible. I mean ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. You should take your time when doing your kits. Be Patient. You have good ideas of what you want, but you dont know how to accomplish what your after yet, you over-do allmost everything. The dirt on the Ginns for example, you have to remember the scale, if that was real those smudges would be the side of a full grown person. Also, along the patience line, something that is turning people off from you is because instead of posting along post, you make four or five of them, creating quite a bit of spam.

01/13 18:18
Other weathering advice would be have a look at my Zaku II, Robofreak's models as he offered or anybodys around here. This should be enough to give you ideas for your own stuff. Also look at some millitary modeling tanks and planes sites, they have some great stuff. Most of all don't forget to ask my self, Robofreak or any one out their for help. We will do our best, happy modeling...
robofreak
01/13 18:13
I'm going to be honest my friend. I was expecting so much more out of you. I was hoping to see kits that were seamed, primed, and painted, but that did not happen. Modeling is not about how many kits you get done in a day or week. It's about doing the best job possible and putting your heart and soul into your work. Your kits are lacking that "Artisans Soul", you've spent no time on seam lines and nip marks. You have potential, but your not letting it be shown in your work.
deathworld_dragon
01/13 18:06
Sorry friend but I have to agree with robofreak here. Take your time building these man. I know you really want to post your work here like anyone else but slow down to produce the model you want (I just cracked down on some guy here proud of the fact he finished a model in 8 hours). Second I agree also with your first several models will shw others what type of modeler you will become. Scince you are having trouble with a pannle lines on your yellow gin. Tri wiping most of it off with a tissue and a little bit of trups, BE REALLY CEARFUL! then take your time and do the neatest job ever did (make a mistake, wipe it off and do it again). Now get your hands on Gameswork Shop black ink, water it down and coat parts and wipe the extra with a tissue. Ad a cleap mat coat with a little fine brown paint dry brushed will improve it. This is just one idea. Do your best and happy modeling.

Nice to know they came in. Do me a favor and don't blow it on these ones. If there is anything I've learned in modeling, it's that the first ten kits you do will determine the type of modeler you will be. I know you like to weather stuff, but weathering is not always mud and battle scars. Weathering is what I'll call a "catch all" term. It can be anything from shading to worn metal. Just look at my models for examples of it. I guess, that what I'm saying is that you should'nt blow it on these because of how much money you spent on them. If I see these kits assembled and posted on your page tomorrow, I'll probably have no choice, but to track you down and maim you for not being patient. Understand?

I reccommend that you get a Badger brand airbrush now that you have the cash. I'm still saving up for mine. Don't buy a compressor just yet. I highly reccommend using at least 2 cans of propellant before going for a compressor just so you can get a feel for the controls. That way you will be able to decide if that is really what you want without dishing out a ton of cash. When you do get a compressor, talk to me. I know where to get them brand new at 50% off retail.

It was a pretty good job for what you had on hand, but I still can't stress how important it is for you to wait for your supplies. Have some patience and read some painting tutorials so that you can learn the basics of painting. Use that link I gave you. Also use gamesworkshop. They have painting tutorials for painting miniatures, but can be used on Gundam. Especially the SD figures.
robofreak
12/30 11:44
My rule of thumb is. The bigger it is, the easier it is to do. Believe me, 1/144 is what you do when you have a lot of experience in modeling. The best kits for begginers are MG and HG kits. I think with your wanting to start off small, you accidentally started off big. Not big in terms of size, but big in the amount of work you have ahead of you.
robofreak
12/30 11:08
Please tell me you did'nt order 1/144 scale. Those kits will give you nothing but grief. They are plagued with seam lines and require a lot of masking in order to paint. The SD's look alright. That a special edition kit. You should look forward to about 3 to 4 seam lines to fix on each of those SD's. Tamiya actually sells some spray cans that are spot on to the reds you'll need for the SD's and the Gundam Astray model.

Hobbywave.com for all your gundam needs. Buy paint online. Tamiya has a better selection of colors than testors, but you can order a good airbrush from testors. They have the aztek model I told you about.
robofreak
12/27 21:33
I going to have to recommend you use Tamiya Paint cans for now. I only use my airbrush when I have to shade or have to custom mix a color. It's also cheaper than propellant in the long run.
robofreak
12/27 21:30
There are 4 types of airbrushes. 2 of which you must avoid at all cost. 1. Single action, external mix(AVOID) 2. Double action, external mix (AVOID) 3. Single action, internal mix (I own a Aztek A320 which is pretty good. It costs $70 and that is a good deal for the amount of learning you'll get with it.) 4. Double action, Internal mix (These are the best brushes to buy because they give you full control of how you want your paint to flow. They do cost a pretty penny, but are definitely worth having after you learn to control a single action, internal mix. The reason you want a internal mix brush is because the paint will sputter less and is more likely to do what you want it to do without making a mess. It is also a way of making sure that the paint is properly dispersed onto the piece you are painting. Again, SLAP YOURSELF IF YOU BUY ANYTHING THAT SAYS EXTERNAL MIX. Internal mix is what you want.

12/27 21:17
First off, you're an idiot for looking for an airbrush at walmart. Airbrushes sold at walmart are cheap, but cheap comes at the price of paint sputter and other nasties. Go to your local hobby shop to find one. My next comment I post will explain the different types of airbrushes. The Dupli color spray primer is available in the Automotive section at Walmart. It's not in paint, I say it again, GO TO THE AUTOMOTIVE SECTION! You can also try Autozone and Checker. They have it for sure. Based off my experience, I'm reccomending only 2 different brands of paint. Tamiya and Model Master. Citadel is also good, but it is a little harder to find unless you have a gamesworkshop or hobby store that carries gamesworkshop products.
robofreak
12/26 22:24
You do know your zoids going to be rejected from this site? Oh and go to walmart and buy some Dupli color automotive spray primer. It's the best stuff to use for prepping your models. And if you're in the market for an airbrush then you should start off with an Aztek A320. It's the one I use and for $70 it's the best one you can buy without choking down $150 on a Badger. I would like to recommend that you use spray cans for now. It will be cheaper than buying propellant for now. A good airbrush compressor will run you up $250 which is why I'm recommending the spray cans. I know that you said in you last post that you're not pro brush, but you're going to need to learn to use both techniques in conjunction with each other. I too was anti paint brush, but then I realized that the paintbrush was neccessary for just about everything from eyes to terrain work. As an example the E'Gock I did was spray painted, but actually required more hand painting than you might want to believe.

Let's just go off the concept of there being different types of A'Harvesters. Certain A'Harvesters are equipped for different mining purposes. What do you think?
robofreak
12/20 17:17
Inspiration has struck! I was browsing my knockoff G.I. Joe graveyard and came across a curved blast shield thing. Well I chopped it off and added a gun and then grafted it onto a leg of an G.I Joe space figure. (Will I ever find enough uses for bootleg toys and easter eggs?) Well anyways it looks more like a beefed up shovel arm than anything else. I gues it's good to dig!

12/20 16:28
Bummer... On other news, I've got the gun arm and the main body primed and awaiting their base coats. My main problem now is figuring out how to make the demolition arm. It's proving to be quite a challenge!
robofreak
12/20 16:01
So, did you find a Gundam?
robofreak
12/18 21:01
Sorry man, I was Christmas shopping! Your model shows promise. The A'Harvester should be ready for priming tomorrow. I had to canabalize a G.I. Joe figure in order to get the arms I wanted and now I have to graft the gun into one of the arms. The gun I found is really cool! It has 2 cannons in it. One for blasting minerals free and one for suction! I'm also using my favorite expando cable that will attach it to the backpack.

12/18 09:15
For the arm problems you might need some material with a Hole and some paper clips outstreched held together by solder :)
robofreak
12/17 18:08
Well, I've got the torso done, but that's the only part that going together nicely. The arms are proving to be a problem along with finding a good hover waist thing for it. What do you think about scrapping the wrecking ball vacuum arm in favor of a gun with the collection hose attached to it. If I can do that then I might be able to make the arms work. One arm holds the gun that collects minerals and the other arm will be a little more beefy with at least some demolition capabilities. What do you think? I want your honest opinion on this.
robofreak
12/17 15:46
The A'Harvester is calling me...
robofreak
12/17 15:45
Glad you liked it! The switch from paper to 3d representaion was a little tricky as you saw, but I think everything went well in the end. What did you think of my interpretation of it? Oh yeah, and hopefully now you can see that you don't have to canabalize $70+ in kits to get what you want. It cost less than $5 to get all the parts for the E'Gock!

Just so you know, I have'nt spent as much time as I normally would on this model because I don't want it to take away your steam. I put it together in order to show you that you don't have to canabalize a bunch of expensive models in order to make what you want. It's designed to give you an idea of what you can do with knockoff toys and everyday objects. I'm not saying I made it look like crap, I just made it look decent. I actually had more time to work on it today than I thought I would, so it's officially in the priming stages.
