I work as an event tech at Crown Melbourne and free lance as a lighting and sound tech. I'm also a big fan of Anime and Japanese culture. I study Kendo (Japanese fencing) and just finished my studys as an event tech in 2007...

I have been building models for many years and only been doing well in the past few years. I display my work on the net and in modeling expo's including the national IPMS. I started with millitary then switched to Warhammer and Lord of the Rings. This is where I learnt to paint and kit bash. When my anime interest grew I fell into gundams. Im also just
slowly learning air brushing right now...

I have visited and studyed every model in the BAKUC gallery to vote and improve my ability from others advice, mistakes and new ideas...

Working on 1/144 scale Blitz from Gundam seed. This kit is a boot leg so a lot of putty, sculpting and kit bashing is involved to create a good model...

FYI: The forums are currently down and we're not sure why. I'm guessing it has something to do with the storm damage the data center took last week. We hope it'll be back up soon. Till then, we ask for your patience.

Update: Soon the Blitz Gundam will be finished. A month ago I was promoted at work. Last week I graded at kendo for 5th cue and passed. Australian model expo is in short of three months so I better get cracking. Zero is awesome and my right hand feel a sleep which I might do the same now...

Thanks for the info. As for sharing my experience her's some... basic..test fit the kit.make connection holes bigger or cut the the connection shorter so that the kit can be separated in the future.by doing this the seam may be eliminate when cement is used.Apply deluxe cement on all surface of connection on the kit.excessive cement leftover oozed out from the seam should be sanded off. Allpy primer to locate holes and uneveness.fill in gaps with basic putty then sand it of. apply primer and repeat steps just now until u satisfy with the model. apply paint, since u used brush make sure thin ur paint with mild retarted.Apply a few layers until satisfy. As for battle damage and corrosion, try using basic tamiya putty add thiinner then used the brush to apply on the armor using stabbing method then sand it down a bit(do this before prime)lastly drybrush it .

04/11 20:49
Ok, say, a quick run though of the break points of armor. You have to think of it logically, on a zaku's leg, why would the front of the piece need to have a gap, it wouldnt break there, the round parts on the side would, inorder to get to the internals. The upper legs would have a seam going down the sides, as opposed to the center, if they have them at all. The forarms come in multiple pieces layered, leaving no seams, the upper arms are one armor piece, or two at most, no seams show, and the shoulders have their break points hiden. The head the top has a break from the bottom, most of the time it has a hinge. That goes for most mecha, there are some exceptions, but most fall under that category. if it need to be moved to fix internals, it either has a hinge, like the top of the feet, or skirts. or it has a seam line, which is relativly hidden and doesnt look bad.
derringer
04/04 21:21
Ha yeah, there shouldn't be just one seam visible. They should be visible ALL over the thing because it was one of my first painting kits and I didn't know about or have putty yet hahahha. I'll post the kit I made after learning out about seam filling sometime when I get the pictures up from my other computer. XD

When you get a chance, check out alllla's latest creation. He's getting a lot better and I have to say that I'm really impressed with the base he created. Sure it's out of scale, but he's getting good at terrain. Maybe we should make him our terrain specialist?

All of my spray painting, airbrushing, and other super toxic stuff is done outside. All the hand painting and prep work is done on a desk in my room though. I have to work with what I got so I keep all the toxic stuff like my resin out in the garage.

03/15 00:36

robofreak
03/13 20:43
$25 for a PG WZC?!?!?!!! I would kill for that price as I paid $150 for mine. Next to my Eva's it's one of my favorite kits, but it requires a lot of love when it comes to assembly. Here's a tip when it comes to PG's, you can always build the frame and then give it coat of Krylon Fusion black. It does'nt affect joints and after some silver drybrushing it looks great! Also saves valuable time when it comes to building those monsters. After the discussion on the "We're Screwed" thread, I though it would be better to talk to you about this through here. Don't you think Bandai would increase profits if they slashed prices? I mean anyone with half a mind knows that the MG and PG lines would do better if prices were at %50 percent of what they are at now.
robofreak
03/12 23:11
let's not try to piss off too many people when we address stuff on the forums. I get the feeling a couple of the post that were made in my thread pissed off a couple of the site moderators. I started the weathering guide in modeling help. I'm going to do a article on worn metal and we'll process from there.
robofreak
03/12 18:32
I think it would be better to create our own guide instead of high jacking someone elses. Besides, that one was for weathering advice. We're making a guide here. Expect the topic to be made by tomorrow.
robofreak
03/12 13:49
Thanks for letting me know about the ranking stuff. I was a little pissed when I found myself bumped down to begginer and I think I'll start a riot on the forums over this. Will you join in on the discussion once you see it posted? I learned some cool weathering techniques while I was working on my Tau pieces last week. I'm thinking about doing a thread on basic weathering techniques and was wondering what you think of me doing something like that? I hear so many questions about weathering that it seems like it would be a good idea to posted a guide for everyone with techniques that are simple yet effective. Shall we work together on it? Last thing, if your interested in knowing more about what I'm being paid at Rabid Squirrel, then take a look at what I posted on Steven's page.

It's my first job with the company and if everything goes well it should be a good experience and chance to hone my skills.

Well I poured the resin outside and had it cure for a couple of weeks. When I came back to it there was no smell. I thought the resin had completely cure, but I was wrong. I guess that it was still somewhat curing and because it had so little smell it took a while for it to build up in my room. Don't worry, I know not to mix things that smell like bondo in small areas.

robofreak
03/02 13:15
Well, I found out why I have been having a lot of headaches lately. Castin Craft resin has this strange smell once it's cured and never really goes away. My room has had the faint smell of bondo for the past couple of months and when I was getting my new models ready for photographs I discovered that my Eva-02 base was the culprit. I have since moved it to my garage and am now in the irritating process of removing the resin. Good news is that my headaches are gone! Now if I can only find some alternative for water that will not have a funky smell...

I have'nt played dmc4 yet. My brother got me dmc 1 and 2 so I can understand the story better. I like the new .hack, there are some elements from the first series that I miss, but the new stuff does make up for it.
robofreak
02/15 10:15
I'm fine, but I have'nt been able to paint because of the weather here. It's just cold enough to where I can't use my spray cans or airbrush until it warms up. So pretty much everything is on hold until mid March. I have the .Hack games and Devil May Cry to keep me occupied though:) Posting without a keyboard is a real pain. The iPod has a touch screen keyboard that's very responsive, but the buttons are sometimes hard to hit without hitting a couple more in the process due to how small it is. By the way, I got the job with Rabid Squirrel and will be doing some Transformers within the month. Hopefully the weather will have gotten better by then.

Let me let you in on a little tip. The pieces slide into place, they hold it slightly snug, but it comes out, the top of the head and the armor pieces hold it on even more snuggly so it doesnt come out at all, and therefor, it doesnt need to be glued.

I just read on another profile that you posted in that Tamiya surface primer works best for Gundams. I've got to challenge that because my last several Gundams were done using Dupli- color surface primer. It's a light grey, but it is the best stuff to use in order to prepare for the pre-shade. It's also 10x stronger than the Tamiya stuff as it's for automotive use. You also get more for your money.

Do you like Transformers? If all goes well tomorrow I'll be able to hopefully pick up a Cyberfembot kit. It's made by a company who wanted to make an Arcee figure for Transformer fans, but due to production costs it was quite expensive. The guy is clearing out the last of his inventory and I'm going to try and get one. If I win the auction I'll be putting my Zaku on hold and start planning on how to put the thing together. Most of the owners just put it together and only add a couple of details with paint. I plan on not only painting the whole thing, but I'm also going to be sanding and filling in all the imperfections in the pieces. Go to Cyberfembot.com and tell me what you think. I also talked to the creator and owner of the site and if he likes what I did with the piece he might even use me for some other stuff he plans on doing.

What do you mean he did it again. Last time I talked to him he was supposed to be sanding his Freedom. I don't see anything on his profile that's changed since that giant base he constructed. Look at that entry again and see if my advice was good. I gace him some steps to take in order to complete the base and I want you to see if I left anything out. Now if I can only get him to focus on prep work instead of paint schemes.

We should try to lay off of him a little, not everyone can do this hobby. I havent given myself as lofty goal as being better then someone specifc, I just want to keep improving my skills untill I am happy with my finished product, which, for none of my kits, I am. I am un-happy with how every one turned out. The heavyarms looks to sloppy, the guntank got overdone on some parts and some of the styrene was to thick. The gouf... I overdid the drybrushing and the base looks horrible (you can see the clay!) My zaku sniper might look good in the pics, but the paint has worn off hidden parts of the rifle, there was a single seam on the backpack (the ridged black part) I couldnt fix, the backpack didnt get painted smooth... my SD kits arent bad, im happy with the elmeth, not the magella attack tank though. the GM cannon, less said about that monstrocity the better.

***IM MAKING A STATEMENT HERE REGUARDING THE QUAILTY OF WORK AROUND HERE! My self other seasoned modelers are noticeing beginers around here are not as respectful of modeling as others. I am looking at many models posted unpainted and uncleaned (seams and nubs). I've even seen people reguarding 1/100 figures or hand full of unused parts as an model it self. Its great you guys can snap a kit together in 1 day but take a look at other models around you. Guys like myself sometimes spends months building a kit. Please buy the right tools, take your time and ask for advice...***

You're right, I am somewhat pissed. However the base can still be saved if he'll make a wood border for it and spray paint the thing black and go crazy with the drybrushing like you see on my Eva-03 base. Take a look and you'll see what I mean. He'll also need to add some foliage and more models to the thing. What do you think?

You me and Robo... I think were the only ones on here, that can model relatively well, that talks and gives comments. I cant tell you how tired im getting of all comments being like Great! or I love it! when its just a snapped kit!! I know and talk to a few of the advanced/expert modelers, like Tet, and Victoriously secret, but they dont spend much time on here besides when they post, and I know brother VS has been doing Rc cars latley... but anyhow. Im just getting tired of not seeing quality on this site

The inspiration for it actually came from a zaku that I saw in a magazine. The only items they used were sandpaper, white colored pencin, gundam weathering markers, clear red paint and some dull cote.

I'm going on a small break from modeling as I'm a little burnt out from my Tau army. My break will be finished once I'm done with my new Castlevania game. I'll still be helping alllla as we progress through his Strike and when I get back to building I'm going to try my hand at doing a gundam using nothing but sandpaper and weathering markers. Should be interesting.

Yeah, I think he's spamming us. I wish he'd put all his thoughts onto one comment instead of 100 small comments.

You said put like it was past tense. It's more like putting work into this Zach's Strike:) By the way, if all goes well I'll have a new model up later. Here's a hint, I had shameless fun with GW sprue and a Zeta kit.

Good news all! I have fixed my air brush and set aside an area to paint on my desk. From now on I only air brush my work (unless they are 5cm figures)...

Hey, I heard this thing on G4,a video-gaming network, that there was a riot of about 500 teens in Melbourne that tore up the town. The interview with the kid was hilarious, he did'nt take his sun glasses off, and the news reporter who was doing the iterview was ragging on him real bad. He looked hammered out of his mind. Any way, is your stuff okay?

A sewing needle works better for bullet holes. It gives you more control compared to a paperclip.

alright what do u think of this, My soon to be Manga k here it goes, alright, there are 4 countries called, Asciy, Relina, Dest, and Impore, Asciy and Relina are Imperial state, Dest and Impore are pretty poor, but sorta like middle class country, Dest is a sand country ruled by War veteran "King Lyan", Dest ruled by Saviour "King Oringhan", both are very peace ful countries, as well as Asciy which is ruled by "Stalwart Jasmine" and Relina ruled by "King Fadalius", all countries were allies until government and politics changed their course of history, Desthas become so poor that it uses all its funds to wage war on the Imperial country Relina(because Relinas a but-hole, so then Dest, and Impore attack Relina, Relina calls on her allie Asciy for help, But Jasmine denies and says her people are not to be involved, that her people have no role in the war. so Now its the year 472, Dest and its allie Asciy and Impore, live in peace, 20 yrs have past ever since the war that separated a continent, The new King of Impore is"King Ferdinand", Dest's King is "Vetaren Hero Guff", and Asciy's New Queen, "The unmatched beauty Gloria". Peace has been restored to the continent of Hydro, But Relinas new king "Fedrodian", has revenge on his mind and wages war on Asciy, for denying their call for help, a seargent class soldier named Jewl is assigned to guard the capital, but has flash backs about him and his X-girl, way back then, She lives in Relina, they met when He was on duty there, then Relinas potential makes her armies all the way to the capital, but unknowingly Jewl is what u call a "Key" the northern territories were his home, until relina decided to destroy it, him and his family fled to the very Peaceful Imperial country of Asciy, when he is cornered with his Buddy Dante Phoon, he sees his X as an Imperial General, hes shocked at the sight of seeing her, he runs to her and embraces her but gets impaled with her sword, he still manages to hold her but is growing faint and losing much blood, he apologizes to her, Heres a phrase ( "I'm sorry,Rei, I didnt mean to leave you back there, You must'v been so lonely, I miss you so much, everyday i go on haveing this theory that we wont ever see eachother again, but everyday, I cant forget about you, I cant forget about us, Im not asking you to forgive me, all Im saying is that Im ...,Im sorry. Rei: Jewl!) Then they embrace eachother, then Jewl eyes open and they have a certain look in them that intimidate the enemy, He takes the blade out from his gut, and walks past Rei, He tells her to get behind him, Then He starts kikin ass! so what good right......

Sorry dude, I thought you were talking about the tools I was wanting him to get. I did'nt realize you were talking about the videos knife and file. I also want to keep Zach away from enamels for now. I would feel way more comfortable using acrylics because I'm more familiar with them. And also he won't have to buy paint cleaner if he gets acrylics. I plan on teaching him to use spray cans, because they're pretty easy to use and it does'nt take a ton of work in order to make a model look good with them. I started out with spray cans so I figured Zach will be able to make a good start with spray cans.

well do you have any instant messangers? It will be easier to bounce ideas using one. and I take it you looked at my kits and atleast sort of like the battle damage on them (like the tank)

01/18 09:34
Well, I personally use jewelers files and an xacto knife. I'm not using the Citadel brand crap either. I want him to get the knife because of its veratility and he'll need the files in order to get most of the sprue nub off before he has to switch to sandpaper. I would'nt tell anyone to buy junk.
