The "messing it up" worked. It looks like a heavily weathered, battle-worn strike... |

@crimson, I buy my sandpapers sa hardware, 800 grit to 1200 grit...I'm not into metallic finishes, but a good combination of flat and glossy finishes in a kit is great looking. :) |

@crimson,hahaha...my mom told me 3 kayo, but I met your 2 friends earlier...basically start with the basics like removing seams, sanding and painting before you venture into modifications...I painted 11 1/100 kits before I tried mods. Visit fichtenfoo.com, he has a tutorial on how to build MGs. thanks man. :) |

I strongly disagree about calling this kit a mess. For me, Its beautiful and the weathering makes the "mess" looks great. ^^ |

Ayt smeagolthevile, however I coat my kits with future before washes thus protecting the previous layer of paint. Also, I use tamiya acrylics for the basecoats annd enamels for washes...just like what you stated, It won't harm the acrylic paint. thanks man. :) |

The issue with using the washes, is that anything that will think the pain, will damage the coat you are putting it on. You use acrylics with water, because water doesnt think enamel and laquer. |

@ weirdo5000, thank you man! But I think personally looking at it now, the weathering is fine but it better suits zakus and ground mechas.thanks again...keep building! :) |

Ayt smegolthevile, I use lighter fluid for tamiya enamels. I've done it a couple of times for my newer kits...I'm not sure, but I think water ( for acrylics ) does not have the great capillary action of enamels and oils. Thus, It's fairly difficult to use acrylics for panel lining washes. thanks man. keep building! :) |

Have you ever tried using a wash? Get acrylic or oil paint. Put it in a separate container and thin it until it is about 10% paint 90% water, or so. You then put it onto the panel lines after putting down a gloss top coat. Let it run into all the panels and gaps, and dry. Then get the thinner for acrylic or oil, whichever your using (not sure for oil, but acrylic is water) and clean off the excess around the seams. This way you can choose what color you really want. It works well but takes time to master. |

Thanks smeagolthevile...I used black technical pen on this, but now I use enamels, I still prefer german grey though. thanks man.:) |

A few suggestions. When you do your pannel lining, dont use BLACK use a lighter shade of gray. Mix a custom color based on the color of your kit, it wont stand out as much and look cleaner. Remember, the pannel linings are only gaps on the armor, your painting the shadows.
The paint chipping looks well done, even if they are rather big chips to be there without damage http://codyscoop.com/ht-building.html check that out for more info on that. All being said, I like this, very good job for a first time. Keep up the good work! |

@ deathworld and suzukaze7, thanks to both of you...I wasted too much paint in this, coz I repainted it twice during the process. I just want to show the younger guys in this forum that before I won this year's Bakuc Finals at HK, I did some really messed up looking kits like this one. Thanks man! :) |
