I decided to do another Hazel, but this time add a twist. The twist was combining the Hazel with the Zeon Alive Stutzer units. I'm very pleased with the end result as it adds a lot to the Hazel and still managed to look as if it fits into the AoZ continuity.
The kit started off as a Master Grade Quel and a test cast Hazel head from Models4U. I made many modifications to the kit in addition to the removable Stutzer unit. I'll lest them below:
Quel to Hazel Modifications
* Scratch-build shoulder boxes/grenade launchers
* Modified chest vents to be closed type and to protrude outward
* Modified GM beam rifle to look more like Hazel beam rifle, yet still be a unique piece. E-Pacs from MG Gp01 were used
* Scratch-build clip covers for clips mounted on right forearm. E-Pacs from MG Gp01 were used
* Detailed recesses with stretched sprue which was painted red
* Added resin Hazel head
* Modified shield mount so that it mounted to side of arm instead of back
* Detailed thruster bells and other parts with 1mm silver crimping beads
* Scratch-build center of chest to be the Hazel chest
* Scratch-build pilot hatch to be larger
* Added bar to center bottom of backpack to match Stutzer unit
Stutzer Unit:
* Scratch-build main arms and center structure from styrene shapes and sheets
* Used Gp01 Beam Rifle on right arm
* Used shell cartridges from M-10 Tank for grenade/rocket launchers on left arm
* Used drill-lathed sprue for yellow bars on arms and mount
* Rare earth magnets were used to attach Stutzer unit to chest
* Details added with Wave and Kotobukiya option parts
For the color of the Hazel I wanted to leave out the white highlights and use darker blues to produce a more sinister look. I think I achieved that feel. The yellow-orange help to make the suit pop in places and keep the Titans Test Team look. The decals were the TTT sheet from Models4U.
